Alicante has become the first city in Spain to switch on its Christmas lights. Around 200 streets are now illuminated by 2.5 million LED bulbs. The bows, bells, garlands and other festive features are topped by an 18-metre Christmas tree, outside the Town Hall and a 12-metre Christmas bauble on the esplanade, which visitors can walk inside.
