Madrid’s Atocha station is to get a new name.
Spain’s busiest railway station is to be renamed as part of a Government plan to rename the main stations across the country after women.

The station is to soon be called “Puerta de Atocha – Almudena Grandes”, after the new name was announced by Minister of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda, Raquel Sánchez in a press conference yesterday.
Almudena Grandes was a writer from Madrid who published 13 novels and three short story collections. She died from cancer last November aged 61.
