According to the latest figures, the Covid incidence rate in the popular local resort of Benidorm is three times higher than the national average in Spain. There have been 156 recent cases compared to 46 per 100,000 people.
There is no proof of why the rate is increasing, but experts believe the influx of foreign visitors could be to blame. UK arrivals boomed once the majority of testing requirement were removed for the double jabbed when they return home.
