Salvador Illa – the leader of PSC – which gained the most votes but fell short of gaining a majority on Sunday’s regional election – has concluded a first day of discussion with parties in an attempt to form a government in Catalonia.
In a series of telephone conversations with all the regions parties except for Vox, Mr Illa stated that it was his intention to stand for investiture as the president of the Generalitat.
His formal announcement was met by calls from separatist parties to form a prompt agreement to enable independence parties to form a coalition government of their own.
Face to face negotiations between parties is expected to begin in the coming days.
