The Catalan regional Government is understood to be considering the postponement of next months regional elections, as coronavirus cases continue to rise in the region.
Voters in the north eastern region were due to go to the ballot box on the 14th February – a date which is close to what is expected to be the peak of the pandemics latest wave.
Secretary of Public Health of the Generalitat, Josep Maria Argimon, said that the region currently does not have “the best epidemiological scenario” for the holding of safe elections.

Opposition parties have called for discussions over the election date, saying all parties must agree to a postponement.
