The number of deaths in Spain from those who have tested positive for the coronavirus passed 60,000 yesterday as the Ministry of Health announced a further 565 new deaths in the previous 24 hours.
Health Minster Carolina Darias also announced more than 31,000 new cases of the virus, but did say that the data suggested a downward trend in the number of infections in total.
However concerns over intensive care capacity prompted Ms. Darias to warn that there were still some “hard weeks ahead”.
The news came as it was confirmed the first batches of the AstraZeneca vaccine will arrive in the country next week, with the public health board yet to make a decision over which groups will receive the vaccine, however early reports suggest it will not be administered to those aged over 80.
