Despite the raft of new infections seen as the sixth wave of the pandemic gripped the Alicante Province, Covid related deaths in January were 75 percent lower than in 2021 during the devastating third wave. There were 628 deaths in January 2021 and 158 deaths in the same period in 2022.
According to the data, whilst cases have skyrocketed the sixth wave has been much less lethal and the Omicron variant generally causes a milder form of the disease.
