The accumulation of decomposing organic matter on the shores of the Mar Menor has increased considerably, reveals a report issued by the Environmental Planning Department. A spokesperson has called for the urgent removal of the rotting plants.
The municipal report has been carried out to justify the urgent processing of the new clean-up contract by the Cartagena City Council. The new contract is due to be in force from 1st December, 2021 to 30th June, 2022 and has an estimated budget of €200,000.
The clean-up will focus on the shoreline of the bathing areas and urban beaches of the coastal lagoon. The work will be carried out on demand, depending on the amount of dead plants accumulated.
