The DGT has announced plans to create a driving licence for those aged 16 or over.
In a proposal issued by the force, they suggest allowing 16-year-olds to undergo a test which would permt them to drive lightweight and low powered vehcicles.
The adoption of the B1 category is already in places such as France, and would enable over a million people to access mobility where they currently do not have direct access.
Road safety organisations have called for strict and thorough testing to ensure safety standards are maintained across the country.
