Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez has said the Government will declare the areas affected by the flooding of the Ebro at the weekend river a “catastrophic zone” to enable emergency funding and support to be released.
He made the statement following hosting a meeting at the “Dialogues on the Future” conference. During his update he also offered his condolences to the families of the two people who were known to have died in the floods, as well as to give thanks to emergency services in the Navarra, Aragón and País Vasco regions.
Meanwhile the mayor of Zaragoza has warned that the flooding in the city will be worse than that of 2015 when the waters reach their peak today.
In a press conference yesterday, the alcalde – Jorge Azcón – warned that water levels would be high for at least a 48 hour period.
