Over 2,600 people have now been evacuated from their homes and more than 7,700 hectares of land destroyed as the wildfire in the Andalucian region of Sierra Bermeja continues to burn uncontrolled.
Yesterday it was confirmed that the fire was now officially a sixth generation fire – meaning the energy produced by the blaze was able to modify weather systems in the area, making fighting the fire more difficult.
Nearly 1000 emergency crews are now working on the site, in what is believed to be one of the largest wildfires in recent years.
Investigators say they have evidence that the fire, which claimed the life of a 44-year-old firefighter last Thursday, was started deliberately.
The regional government has said it will provide as much assistance as possible to local law enforcement in an effort to bring the person responsible to justice.
