The multi-vehicle crash that brough the AP7 to a standstill yesterday morning has left one dead and four people seriously injured. Six vehicles, three of them heavy goods lorries were involved in the rush-hour pile up around 9am near kilometre 525 Crevillente. The fatality was a 58-year-old Belgian man who was driving an off-road vehicle. Firefighters and ambulance crews attended the scene and the injured were cut from their vehicles before being taken to hospitals in Elche.
Police are investigating the cause of the accident, with first indications that a lorry, travelling in the opposite direction crashed through the barrier into the on-coming traffic and hit another lorry head-on. The other vehicles collided into the wreckage.
