Local elderly expats are being warned about the return of the gas inspector scam. Bogus gas inspectors con their way into the homes on non-Spanish speaking pensioners claiming the need to carry out maintenance and system checks. The con artists than charge considerable amounts for this fictitious work and also steal any small items that can be sold.
Police are warning people not to let any ‘cold callers’ into their houses and as ID cards are regularly forged, these are no longer valid proof. Official companies will make pre-arranged appointments for any house visits that need to be made.
