Minister of Health, Salvador Illa, has said that he is investigating the possibility of introducing a nationwide curfew in an ongoing effort to reduce the spread of the coronavirus.
In a press conference yesterday, the minister said that if there was a need to introduce such measures, another state of alarm would have to be declared.
However the Government said it would not consider such an action without the unanimous support of regional authorities and major opposition parties.
He did also confirm that the state of alarm in Madrid – which is due to expire on Saturday – will not be extended. Officials in the region have said that they too are exploring curfew as an option to help tackle the virus.
