
Guardia Civil in Alicante have rescued an endangered loggerhead turtle and taken it for treatment after spotting the animal in distress 30 kilometres off the coast of Pilar de la Horadada.

The animal was seen to be struggling to swim by a passing patrol boat, which took it on board and arranged for it to be treated by vets at the Santa Faz Species Recovery Center.
The turtle is now undergoing treatment for an eye disease as well as a parasitic infection.
