An investigation is to be launched into messages posted on WhatsApp groups over planned attacks on migrants who are claiming asylum on the island of Gran Canaria.
Chief prosecutor of Las Palmas, Beatriz Sánchez, announced in investigation into suspected hate crimes in a statement issued yesterday.
The investigation will focus on messages posted onto groups on the messaging app, which called for people to meet at locations where migrants were being held and to then attack anyone suspected of being a migrant.
Officials are looking into the source of the messages, and to determine if hate crimes have been committed by those promoting violence.
