A 23-year-old Irish man who is resident on the Costa del Sol has been arrested by Policia Nacional after he ordered his dog to attack officers who spotted the man out after curfew hours not wearing a mask.
Plain clothed officers stopped the man at around 4am on Saturday morning and asked for identification, after he was seen on the streets of San Pedro, close to Marbella.
The suspect is understood to have been accompanied home to produce documentation when he assaulted one of the policemen and then set his dog to attack them.
One sustained injuries from the attack and was taken to accident and emergency for treatment.
The man is due to appear in court on a number of charges including aggravated assault on a police officer – the fate of the dog has yet to be confirmed.
