According to the National Institute of Statistics, several local towns have some of the lowest incomes in Spain. Torrevieja, Elche and Benidorm top the list for the Alicante province when evaluated against lowest annual income by inhabitant. Torrevieja has the lowest average annual net income in Spain, with 8,351 euro per inhabitant. Elche is in fourth place and Benidorm comes in at eighth place.
