Nearly 1,000 people who were evacuated from their homes on the island of La Palma will return today, after restrictions on the island start to get lifted.
La Palma Eruption
345 hectares of land have been deemed safe according to the regional volcanic emergency team. Many people are returning to their properties unsure of what damage has been caused by the eruption.
Those returning have been advised not to enter basements or garages due to the risk of concentrations of toxic gasses without them being formally tested, and for anyone who feels unwell to leave their properties and inform emergency services.
Just over 600 people currently remain in temporary accommodation as these areas are yet to be deemed safe enough.
