The Torrevieja Mayor’s Office has issued a tender for a new car valued at 46,567 euros and is part of a new larger deal to renew its fleet of vehicles. However, a Town Hall spokesperson was keen to point out that the car will be attached to the Mayor’s Office and is not ‘the Mayor’s Car’, adding that the current official was registered in 2001 and is ‘practically useless’.
The previous left-wing government team renounced the use of official cars, travelling in utility vehicles from the Services area or in their own private cars.
The full contract includes a further four cars, three off-road SUVs, eight vans, six large vans, two box trucks and 13 motorcycles. The new contract has been justified by the age and condition of the current municipal fleet which are prone to breaking down and often remain off the road due to the prohibitive cost of repairs.
