A further 52,386 new covid-19 infections have been detected in Spain over the weekend, it was announced yesterday, bringing the total number of cases since the start of the pandemic to 1.3 million.
The latest update from the Ministry of Health also announced the death of a further 512 people who had tested positive for the coronavirus.
Two regions – The Canary Islands and Galicia – are now at medium risk, with the Valencian Community, Murcia, the Balearic Islands and Cantabria at high risk. The rest of the country remains at the highest level of alert for the spread of the virus based on viral spread, hospital occupation and incidence of the virus in the population.
12 regions have said that their intensive care capacity is now at extreme risk, with some regions reporting over 40% occupancy of beds.
