The former Prime Minister – Mariano Rajoy – and a number of his former ministers are understood to be under investigation by a court in Andorra over allegations made by one of the banks which operate in the country.
In legal papers published by the Human Rights group for Andorra, the former president of Banca Privada d’Andorra – Higini Cierco – makes allegations of “coercion”, “extortion” and “blackmail” concerning the former PM, as well as Ministers of the Interior and Finance – Jorge Fernández Díaz and Cristóbal Montoro.
The case is understood to centre around attempts to obtain the financial records of a number of Catalan sepratists during the trial of a number of them for their role in the Catalan independence referendum.
Complaints have also been issued against the Policia Nacional over claims of threats against the bank in 2016.
All deny any wrongdoing – the case continues.
