
The record for coronavirus case numbers over a weekend was broken this weekend, after 331,467 new coronavirus cases were recoreded by the Ministry of Health.
In the latest update from the Ministry, they confirmed that the incidence rate has also risen to 3,398 cases per 100,000 people.
Officials have said that the peak of the latest wave is yet to arrive in Spain, with the Omicron variant being the dominant strain.
Over the weekend Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said that a Spanish produced Coronavirus vaccine may be ready for public use in the first half of this year.
He said this after travelling to the Rovi lab where a significant percentage of the Moderna vaccine is produced.
