A record number of earthquakes in one day have been detected on the island of La Palma since the start of the eruption, after 374 tremors were recorded.
Following an increase in volcanic activty over the last few days, yesterday saw the highest number of quakes since the start of the eruption in September.
2,860 buildings are now confirmed to have been destroyed by lava according to the latest data from the Copernicus satellite system.
Meanwhile hoteliers in Murcia have launched a novel way to raise support for those on the island.
They have started selling the Canarian alcoholic coffee “barranquito” as a sign of solidarity with their La Palma counterparts. The coffees will be sold across the region for the next 2 weeks.
The drink consists of Condensed milk, Licor 43, coffee, milk, cinnamon and a lemon wedge.
