A research group from a Madrid University has completed a technical study into the uses of the brine and peloids of the Laguna Rosa de Torrevieja. Brine is made up of water and salt, and peloids – commonly called sludge – are a mix of salty water with plant residues, clays and sediments.
The study concludes that the pink-coloured brine has cosmetic and dermatological properties and suggests that a Thalassotherapy Centre that would take advantage of the waters of the lagoon should be considered. This is a move that would support Torrevieja’s aim to diversify beyond typical residential tourism.
