Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez has announced that he will chair a meeting of regional presidents this coming Wednesday, in an effort to provide a coordinated approach to the latest increase in coronavirus infections.
The meeting – which will be held remotely – is due to take place in the afternoon, and will focus of the increasing rates of infection, including the impact of the omicron variant in Spain.
During a press conference yesterday, Mr Sanchez said that the meeting would enable regional governments to work together.
The incidence rate of the virus passed 500 per 100,000 people nationally at the weekend. However whilst infections were high, current hospitalisation and intensive care figures were lower than those a year ago.
