A second case of the omicron variant of the coronavirus has been detected in Madrid – health officials in the capital have confirmed.
In their latest briefing, they confirmed a 61-year-old passenger who arrived in Spain from South Africa had tested positive for the variant.
The woman is currently isolating at home, and is not showing any symptoms. This announcement came after a 51-year-old who also returned from South Africa recently was discovered to be the first person in Spain to have contracted the latest strain of covid-19.
