Spain and France have announced an agreement to build a new gas pipeline linking Barcelona with Marseille – cancelling the proposed MidCat pipeline.
The announcement was made ahead of yesterdays European Council meeting, when the Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez and French President Emmanuel Macron, along with Portuguese Prime Minister Antonio Costa announced the new joint project.
The pipeline will send liquefied natural gas across Europe, allowing excess supplies in Spain and Portugal to be distributed across the continent quicker.
This week is was announced that Spanish ports were nearly at capacity for the offloading of LNG, with dozens of ships waiting in Spanish waters.
