The second annual ceremony to pay tribute to those who have died from the coronavirus, as well as for health personnel who have supported the public during the pandemic has been held in Madrid.
A minutes silence was observed during the ceremony, which was hosted by King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia.
Relatives of the 102 health workers who died since the start of the pandemic due to covid were also present, which saw a cauldron lit and thanks given to those who died trying to save lives over the last 18 months.
During the ceremony, four Grand Crosses of the Order of Civil Merit were awarded to members of the medical community in Spain for their work treating the virus.
Meanwhile coronavirus cases continue to rise, with a further 27,000 new infections recorded yesterday, with the 14-day infection rate passing 500 per 100,000 people for the first time since February.
