There has been a record spike in new coronavirus infections on Wednesday with 38,869 new cases.
Of those reported, around 5000 of those are from previous days where a backlog had formed.
28% of available intensive care units are now occupied by patients fighting covid-19, an increase of five percent over the last week.
The previous one-day record was set on October 30 with 25,595 infections.
Yesterday new restrictions were announced in Murcia, Extremadura, Galicia, Navarra and La Rioja.
Authorities in Murcia announced a ban on social gatherings between people living in different houses from today for at least the next 2 weeks.
The decree states that only those who live in the same household can meet outside of their home – unless for childcare, work or education.
