Spain has broken records and again topped the tables in the annual blue flag awards, highlighting high standards of cleanliness, provisions of services and excellent water quality on beaches, marinas and boating tourism sites across Spain.
This year has seen 615 beaches and 96 marinas make the grade in 243 municipalities nationwide, an increase of 25 on last year. Globally 4,825 beaches were awarded the coveted prize.
The Valencian Community is the national leader in the number of award winning beaches, with 153 flags awarded this year, up from last years figure of 148.
Whilst The Canaries has seen 54 flags awarded to the islands, with blue flags appearing on all seven of the main Canary Islands.
