The Spanish Government has said it will not recognise nuclear power as a “green” energy source, in opposition to a decision taken by the European Union.
In a statement on Sunday, Minister for Ecological Transition and Demographic challenge – Teresa Ribera – said that the government would not recognise nuclear as a sustainable or environmentally friendly source for electricty.
Waste materials from the process of generating electricity via a nuclear reactor are the main reasons cited by the Government for them to label the energy source as not being “green”.
