The Ministry of the Interior has confirmed it has been given the go-ahead to send officers from the Policia Nacional to Ukraine to help investigate war crimes carried out by Russia following their invasion of the country.
Officals said the final approval was given by authorities in Kyiv following the visit by prime minister Pedro Sanchez in April.
Investigators are due to travel to Kharkov this week, and will start collecting evidence surrounding possible war crimes.
It’s understood a minimum of eight officers will visit the country – however the full number has not been provided as a matter of security.
