The Supreme Court has ruled against any form of pardon for the twelve convicted Catalan political leaders who were involved in the failed independence referendum and declaration in 2017.
In their ruling the found no reason to quash the sentences on judicial or public grounds, declaring any pardon “unacceptable”.
However the final decision will rest with the Government, who faced stiff opposition from parties in the Congress of Deputies yesterday.
PP leader Pablo Casado called any attempt to release the separatists an act of treason, whilst Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said that there was a time of punishment, and a time for harmony.
