A Torrevieja bar owner is standing trial accused of Insurance Fraud. The trial in Elche will hear how prosecutors allege the bar owner set fire to his own business in Torrevieja to claim the insurance payout.
The crime happened on 6th October 2012, when it is believed that the defendant entered the premises, sprayed a shelf with alcohol, set light to it and left the bar to burn. A sentence of 15 years and 5 months is being requested.
The fire quickly spread to the upper floors of the building where the bar was rented and four neighbours had to be treated. The building suffered damages of more than 24,000 euros.
