The DGT has detected over a thousand professional bus and lorry drivers working longer hours than permitted during a week long operation targeting heavy goods vehicles and busses.
In a series of checks carried out in October, over 2,500 drivers of HGVs and busses were reported for failing to meet road safety laws.
Over a thousand drivers were penalised for exceeding safety limits on hours behind the wheel, with nearly 90 also fined for not wearing a seatbelt.

The operation also removed 42 vehicles that were deemed dangerous from the national road network.
